Ground movement control during performance is absolute. Nounauthorized movement within or adjacent to the ASDA while aperformance is active — not for fuel trucks, not for media, not for crew. The sterile area requires only required personnel in designated positions.
How does taxiing work during the show? If a Participating Aircraft needsto reposition, who authorizes that?
The Air Boss authorizes movement for Participating Aircraft. Airportoperations handles movement for everyone else. Those two lanes don’tcross — you’re not authorizing a rental car shuttle, and airport ops is notauthorizing a performer’s repositioning taxi. Crew chief positions andmovements must be briefed in advance and controlled throughout theshow.
Coordinating the handoff back to regular airport operations is somethingthat can get sloppy at the end of a show segment.
Before you release the ASDA, you alert airport operations. If regular trafficneeds to operate during a show break, you coordinate the handoffsequence with ATC before that traffic moves, not after. Confirm whenregular airport operations resume at the end of each performancesegment — that confirmation goes to ATC and airport ops, not justinternally.
Narrator coordination seems straightforward, but I’ve seen it create realproblems.
Narrators follow the Air Boss — the Air Boss does not follow the narrator. You cue them for each act. They do not transmit on the Air Bossfrequency at any time, period. If a narrator creates a frequency conflict, you resolve it before the next act is authorized. That’s not a post-showdebrief item — it gets fixed in the moment.
